As I try and improve my product photography I am slowly starting to realise that the more simplistic the image the better.
Why am I saying this?
Because the more props you add alongside the main product it will distract the eye away and make it harder to distinguish what it is you are actually trying to sell through the image.
Choosing a white or black background depends on what colour the product is to create the contrast between the two, you want to try and make the product jump out at you. I am not saying don’t put any props in the image I am just saying keep it to a minimum.
In this image I am photographing a Hugo Boss fragrance bottle and I was struggling to think of what props to put in the image, So I googled the specific bottle and looked up the description to see what scents where in the fragrance, it said it had a hint of coffee in it so I got some ground espresso beans and dropped them on the white surface then polished the bottle and had one soft box to the left to create shadows and shot the image. I found that that just worked perfectly with the product.
Simplicity is key and do your research about the product to get the best results.
