Dads Got Talent

Today I decided to photograph something which I am always seeing lying round our house, It’s my Dads pens. These aren’t just ordinary pens, These are Handcrafted pens. All different Styles, Shapes, Patterns and Materials.

When I came around to taking the images I had the idea as every photographer does when shooting pens, Making them levitate!! I wanted a reflective surface for under the pen but had nothing so took a Big TV from downstairs and lay it on my desk, I got the pen hung up on blutack and thread from mums sowing box. It was going so well, I got a few images but the weight of the pen kept making it fall, It fell a few times and I kept hanging it back up.

On the third or fourth time it fell down whatever way it landed on the TV screen I couldn’t lift it because it looked great with the reflection so I just left it and that’s why I have some images lying flat. Wasn’t that lucky!!

Then I done the standard and just put the pens on some normal lined paper to get the obvious image!

So my Dad is an organ builder and is quite good with his hands, He bought a Turning machine a couple of years ago and started out just turning random bits of wood, As he progressed in turning and doing more intricate patterns he bought this book on turning and came across pens, Anyway long story short he started making pens and now his pens look like this. Aren’t they Amazing?

Thanks for Reading, Hope you Enjoy.
